Beyond Infancy

Evidence-Based Parenting

On social media, there is a lot of buzz about the best way to parent. It can feel overwhelming, especially with all of the input you may receive from well-intentioned family members and friends. Many parents nowadays have a desire to break negative familial patterns, such as abuse, and prevent their children from experiencing trauma. Based on research spanning decades, in Western cultures, authoritative parenting--which includes parenting styles such as what some refer to as "gentle parenting"--is most likely to result in healthy attachment, independence, and resilience. Click here for links to peer-reviewed research and resources on authoritative style parenting.
